LONDON. — Liverpool fans are convinced they’ve unearthed an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain conspiracy theory after they were knocked out the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

Ahead of the game, Reds supporters would have been looking at the competition as something they could have definitely won. And would have been relatively happy to have drawn Leicester City — a team they would expect to beat — in the third round.

But it wasn’t to be. Liverpool threw the kitchen sink at their English Premier League opposition at the King Power Stadium, but couldn’t find the back of the net.

The game was then turned on its head when substitute Shinji Okazaki put the Foxes ahead before Islam Slimani secured the result. The final score disappointed Reds supporters around the globe, who quickly took to social media to complain about their side’s performance.

They then discussed their last three fixtures, prior to Tuesday night’s defeat: a 1-1 draw with Burnley, a 2-2 draw with Sevilla, and a 5-0 defeat to Manchester City. And well, everything suddenly made sense. Prior to being absolutely thumped by Pep Guardiola’s side, they battered Arsenal 4-0. — The Mirror.
