Government has crafted a master plan for the irrigation of 25 000 hectares of land at the Nuanetsi Ranch in Mwenezi using water from Tokwe-Mukosi dam. The plan was jointly drawn up by the Ministries of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development and Lands and Rural Resettlement.Construction of the dam would be completed in August this year.
Incessant rains temporarily stalled construction work from January to the end of March this year.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development Responsible for Cropping Davis Marapira yesterday said over 5 000 families would be allocated irrigation plots.

“The Tokwe-Mukosi irrigation master plan is now ready and water will move to the fields at Nuanetsi Ranch down Tokwe River and weirs will be built to hold the water before it is conveyed to cane fields where the furrow irrigation method will be used,” he said.

Families displaced by Tokwe-Mukosi Dam would be allocated 10 000 hectares of land.

A further 15 000 hectares would be pegged and allocated to  people on the waiting list in Masvingo province.
