Samsung official launch on cards
Business Reporter
Renowned mobile phones producer Samsung will officially launch its brand in Zimbabwe soon, a development that is expected to translate into competitive pricing for its products locally.
The products would be sold through a local telecommunication company, Pcomm Global.
Officials from Samsung
are expected to fly into the country next week where they will hold
meetings with Pcomm and other
cellphone dealers to finalise the
deal.
Pcomm Global would be remembered as one of those companies that have in recent years applied for a fourth mobile service licence but failed owing to its low capital outlay to launch the multi-million dollar business venture.
The company’s operations officer, Mr Hillary Mutake, confirmed the development yesterday.
"The bringing-in of the Samsung brand to Zimbabwe would see a significant reduction of prices on the local market.
"It would also flash out fake Samsung products but more importantly customers will have full recourse should they buy any product which they feel is not discharging expected functions.
"They can return the product and we send it back to South Africa while we give the customer another product," said Mr Mutake.
He said with the coming of the Samsung brand, phone shop dealers would now buy the products from Pcomm, thus reducing the cost of going to South Africa for that purpose.
"The new development will give maximum benefit and security to customers who buy Samsung products," said Mr Mutake.
Pcomm has business interests in Botswana, Malawi, South Africa and Zambia.
The coming of the Samsung brand follows the setting-up of a plant locally by another mobile phone producer, G Tide, recently.
The flooding of telecommunication products have translated into reduction in prices for customers whose disposable income has already been strained by low salaries that they are receiving. |
