Herald Reporter AN outrider in President Mugabe’s motorcade died in Harare yesterday morning when his bike crashed into a lorry at the corner of Borrowdale Road and Dundary Voi West Road. Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the accident, adding that investigations were in progress. “There was a fatal accident involving a lead bike and a T35 lorry. Investigations are in progress to determine the cause of the accident. The next of kin of the victim are yet to be informed,” said Asst Comm Charamba. Recently, police warned motorists against disturbing the smooth flow of the State motorcade, saying it should be accorded the respect it deserves. The sentiments came after a pedestrian was hit by a motorbike which was part of the presidential motorcade that accompanied President Mugabe to Headman Enock Chimbamauro’s burial in Zvimba in June. Police said they would carry out awareness campaigns educating motorists to respect all State motorcades. The State motorcade is not supposed to stop until it reaches its destination. All Zimbabweans who learn how to drive are aware that the law requires them to give precedence to the presidential motorcade and ambulances sounding siren. |
