Godknows Matarutse Sports Reporter Zimbabwe Under-17 coach, Lloyd Chigove, is concerned their travelling arrangements to Maputo could affect their performance this weekend. The Young Warriors were still on the road late last night. The team, which left Harare on Wednesday, will spend more than two days on the road ahead of
their African Youth Championship qualifier. “The travel arrangements may let us down as we have already lost two days of training,” said Chigove.
“We could have travelled earlier as we will have only a day to rest and this is not good for such a high-profile match. “Our players are likely to be slow and tired after sitting in the bus for more than 20 hours. “The travelling is not ideal for a team to play their normal game as the journey is strenuous.
“Our opponents are practicing and we are still on our way, which can give them an edge. “The arrangements could have been directed in a better way. “We have not adjusted to the weather, which is humid, and which can make it difficult for us.”
The coach, however, promised that they will try their best to progress to the next round. “We had some light training at a stop-over at Mushungwe and the 20-minute training session may help us a lot,” said Chigove.
“The players are raring to go despite the frustration and I believe they will give us a positive result. “We have since tried some new combinations. We are looking forward to a win and will give Mozambique a good game.”
