THE second edition of the Ignatius Chombo Zvimba North Constituency sports gala was launched recently at Mutorashanga High School and several schools confirmed their participation in the event. The sports fiesta will see primary, secondary schools battling it out in soccer, netball and volleyball.
The community will also feature in soccer and netball.
The sports gala has a US$12 000 purse.
Speaking at the function, tournament organiser George Brighton Chisunga, said they expect a better tourney this year.
“The tournament will have 37 primary schools and 14 secondary schools and the community from Zvimba North District constituencies’ community.
“Our aim is to educate, entertain and promote youth talent. The sports will also give a platform to interact with youths from within the constituency.
“The tournament is sponsored by the constituency’s House of Assembly member Ignatious Chombo and Tasmine Enterprises.
“We look forward to offering opportunities to unveil talent, motivate students and foster relations between sport coaches and participants.
“The round robin format will be used for zonal events and the winners will take part in the finals to be held in Mutorashanga at Zimasco Sports Club on September 29.
“During the finals we look forward to invite sports personalities like players and coaches from different academies,” said Chisunga.
