A team of local and United States of America-based eye specialists is conducting free surgical operations in Harare. The programme ends on Friday.
Organised by Eyes for Africa in conjunction with Surgical Eye Expeditions International, the operations are expected to see restoration of eyesight to patients with diabetic eye complications such as vitreo-retinal problems.
This will take place at Greenwood Park Eye Centre, 175 Corner Fife Avenue and Eighth Street.
“Dr Kimball Woodward, a renowned vitreo-retinal surgeon and diabetes eye specialist from New York will be in attendance from Monday 20th to Friday 24th August 2012,” reads part of a joint statement released by the experts on Friday.
According to the Eye Health Centre diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in adults between 20 to 74.
