CAIRO — Clashes erupted between Egyptian troops and militants in a border village early yesterday in North Sinai, a security source said. The fire exchange broke out in Algoura village as some military and police forces were raiding residences of militants who attacked government facilities and killed some military and police personnel, the security source said.
“The clashes left no casualties and the militants fled through the mountain paths”, the security source added, noting the security campaigns have intensified until the elimination of all terrorist hotbeds in Sinai.
Egypt began the security operation one week ago after 35 armed men attacked a checkpoint in southern Rafah, killing 16 soldiers and injuring seven others. — Xinhua.
