Government and security ministries’ representatives agreed at a meeting yesterday that the programme should proceed as planned. Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara and Acting Finance Minister Gorden Moyo held a meeting with ministers and senior officials from security ministries to iron out sticking issues surrounding the criteria used in the selection of enumerators. There were reports that security personnel were not happy with their quota allocation. Home Affairs co-Ministers Kembo Mohadi and Theresa Makone attended the meeting together with senior officials from their ministries. “We had a good meeting this morning with ministers from security ministries . . . Ministers Mnangagwa, Sekeramayi, Mohadi and Makone and what we have done is to put our house in order,” DPM Mutambara said. Related stories
“In this country we have been conducting very successful censuses since 1982 and today we are just re-affirming our commitment to our methodology of carrying out a census. The meeting, DPM Mutambara said, was premised on ensuring that everybody was in agreement with the need to have a credible national census. Minister Moyo said training would resume today at all centres. “Training will be conducted from tomorrow and during the Heroes holidays up to Tuesday. We are fully behind the Cabinet decision on census and we are in harmony in the entire Government system. made sure that there will be no disruptions,” Minister Moyo said. The training of enumerators had a false start on Wednesday following disturbances that rocked most centres.
