THE annual National Heroes Darts Championships began yesterday at Esigodini Agricultural College with scores of participants turning up. The battle for the men’s title is wide open. Mashonaland West, led by David Nyemba, are the defending champions in the men’s team event.
The Midlands, led by Tabeth Zhoya, are the holders in the women’s category.
National Darts Association of Zimbabwe president Mynard Moyo believes there is tough competition in this tournament.
“The tournament is being held at Esigodini Agricultural College in Esigodini and it started today and will end on Tuesday.
“This is the first time for Matabeleland South to host the tournament and the main reason being to spread the game throughout the country.
“The men’s event looks very open and can be won by any province but I still believe the Midlands women’s team are good and need strong competition for them not to retain their crown.
“On the individual events, players to look forward to will be David Nyemba, Peter Mulukula, Moses Ndlovu, Kudzanayi Nyemba and Austin Chingagwe while Tabeth Zhoya and Melody Gezana are likely to dominate the women’s events,” Moyo said.
