The Zimbabwe National Army yesterday repaired buildings at Beatrice Infectious Diseases Hospitals and SOS Children’s Village as part of its community assistance programme. The army carries out a community assistance programme a week before the commemoration of the Defence

Forces Day annually.
Harare District Commander Colonel Nelson Mujaranji said the army had a mandate to help the community.

“Our community awareness campaign programme is part of our mandate to help the civil society,” he said.
“This year, we decided to help through painting old buildings, repairing toilets, floor tiles, trolleys, doors,

lights and fitting bins at the two institutions.”

SOS Children’s Village director Job Chiviri said they were grateful with the assistance.
“We have our own staff who could do the task, but they failed due to various reasons. The national army has helped this home for the first time,” he said.

SOS Children’s Village has 150 children who are below 14 years and also caters for 68 youths.

Beatrice Infectious Diseases Hospitals sister-in-charge Felistas Mabhiza said the hospital cherished the help they got from the army.

“The army has done a lot to the TB Ward, it fitted in some floor tiles,  done the plumbing, lighting, painting and has repaired  trolleys which transport drugs around the hospital,” she said.
