Masvingo Bureau
A 47-year-old Gutu teacher has been arrested on allegations of raping his six-year-old daughter.
He allegedly stuffed a cloth into the toddler’s mouth to prevent her from crying out. The teacher has since appeared before Gutu resident magistrate Mr Nyasha Vitorini facing rape charges.
He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody August 15 for trial.
According to the State, the teacher on June 26 this year, was at his house at the school with the toddler while his wife was visiting relatives in a neighbouring village.
He allegedly summoned his daughter into the bedroom where he ordered her to lie on her back on the bed.
The accused then allegedly removed the complainant’s clothes before raping her once.
The state further alleges that the girl started crying and the man stuffed a cloth into her mouth. He later threatened to kill her if she reported the matter to her mother.
The girl however, cried when the mother returned and told her what had happened.
A report was made at Maungwa Police Base leading to the teacher’s arrest.
Ms Agatha Gabriel appeared for the state.
