A commuter omnibus driver who allegedly ran over a female police officer who stopped him in the city centre has appeared in court charged with attempted murder. Gerald Mhlanga (27) appeared before

Harare magistrate, Mr Clever Tsikwa, on Monday and was remanded to today on US$50 bail.
Prosecutor Tracey Mundanga alleged that on May 30 at around 2pm, Moleen Chingwaru, a member of the Zimbabwe Republic Police attached at Harare Central Traffic was on duty together with other officers along Angwa Street. Chingwaru saw Mhlanga approaching in a Toyota Hiace omnibus and waved him to stop. He stopped his vehicle with Chingwaru standing right in front of it.
Mhlanga did not stop the vehicle, but the other police officers pursued him and managed to catch up with him after he ran into traffic congestion at a robot controlled intersection. Chingwaru was taken to Parirenyatwa where she as was treated and discharged.
