Takudzwa Chitsiga Sports Reporter Gutu.................... (0) 1 Dewure.................(0) 1 A solitary strike by Humphey Chimombe in the 61st minute was all that Gutu High needed to win the 2012 edition of the Windmill soccer tournament at Prince Edward yesterday. Gutu started off in Pool A that had Glen View 1, Gifford and Sodbury and they won two and drew one of the matches. Runners-up Dewure were drawn against Churchill, Cornway, Highfield 1 and Goromonzi in. A total of 76 matches were played in the tournament, which started on Thursday, with Gutu emerging as the winners. Coach Tafadzwa Mashiri praised his players following their success. “It took us three years to build this team and I think it is now paying dividends,” Mashiri said. “The tournament was good and well organised and we have managed to learn something from our opponents. Our team was good tactically and that helped us as Dewure is a tricky team,” Mashiri said. Dewure High coach, Paul Mahutu, said he was proud of his team. “We had won the midfield battle but our finishing let us down. I think it was good for us to take part in the event,” Mahutu said. |
