PARTIES in the inclusive Government say South African President Jacob Zuma’s visit to Zimbabwe at the moment is unnecessary until Copac submits the final draft Constitution to the Global Political Agreement principals.

President Zuma was tasked by Sadc during the bloc’s extraordinary summit in Angola to urgently visit Zimbabwe and meet GPA principals to resolve their differences.
It was speculated that President Zuma was heading for Harare this week.
However, his office on Sunday said no date had been set for the visit.
President Zuma’s international relations advisor, Ms Lindiwe Zulu, said the facilitator would be attending an African National Congress policy conference in his country this week.
In separate interviews, Zanu-PF and MDC-T spokespersons Cde Rugare Gumbo and Mr Douglas Mwonzora said it would be sensible for President Zuma to visit Zimbabwe after the completion of the Constitution-making process.
Said Cde Gumbo: “President Zuma will only come after the draft Constitution has been submitted to the principals.
“It will be useless for him to come now when parties in the inclusive Government have not yet agreed.”

Cde Gumbo said GPA negotiators had also indicated that they would advise the facilitator when they were ready.
He, however, said the delay in President Zuma’s visit will not have any bearing on the holding of general elections.
He said the Zanu-PF Politburo and Central Committee will meet tomorrow and on Friday respectively, to come up with a definitive position regarding elections.
Cde Gumbo said other parties in the inclusive Government were trying to delay elections.
Mr Mwonzora said parties in the inclusive Government should first complete the Constitution-making process before talking about President Zuma’s visit.
“One of the reasons that is delaying President Zuma’s visit is that Zimbabwe has not completed the important task of Constitution-making.
“It will be more sensible for President Zuma to come after the conclusion of the Constitution-making process, which is one of the key factors,” he said.
Mr Mwonzora said apart from being a facilitator in Zimbabwe’s inter party dialogue, the South African leader had a country to run.
He said President Zuma was attending an important conference in his country, making it impossible to visit Zimbabwe this week.
MDC officials could not be reached for comment last night.
President Zuma’s backroom staff recently met negotiators, the Joint Monitoring and Implementation Committee and minority parties outside the inclusive Government.
The Sadc summit in Luanda, Angola, tasked President Zuma to assist parties to resolve their differences.
It was also agreed that general elections should be held within the next 12 months.
Zanu-PF wants elections this year, while MDC formations are calling for reforms before the polls are conducted.
