Innocent Ruwende Senior Court Reporter
THERE are attempts to produce fake vehicle licence discs, just a few weeks after Zinara introduced new discs with high security features.

Two Harare men were arrested last week for allegedly trying to counterfeit the licence discs.
Oebryan Mapurisa, a director with a computer systems company, Intellitrack (Pvt) Ltd and his alleged accomplice, Henry Zishiri, a car dealer, yesterday appeared before a Harare magistrate facing fraud charges.

They were not asked to plead by magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma who gra-nted them US$100 bail each. Ms Tshuma ordered the pair to report once a week at CID Serious Frauds.
They will be back in court on July 10.

Mapurisa allegedly misrepresented to Process Engravers that he was contracted by the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs to print the new discs.

He wanted the firm to produce the discs using a template bearing the Zinara logo.
The complainant in the matter is Zinara, represented by its information technology manager Mr Gift Kanotangudza. Prosecutor Mr David Magwegwe alleged that last Tuesday, Mapurisa went to Process Engravers in

Ardbennie, Harare, and inquired from the receptionist if the company manufactured metal template blocks.
He allegedly requested the company to manufacture a block for him.

Mr Magwegwe said Mapurisa wanted to make business cards on behalf of the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs and was representing a company called OAKRA.
He allegedly presented a black and white hard copy and upon scrutinising it, the receptionist observed that it resembled security features on the new Zinara licence discs.

The receptionist asked Mapurisa if the job was for Zinara, but he told her that it was for the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs. She then advised him that the company required a written job order for security jobs.

Mapurisa allegedly told the receptionist to contact the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs to confirm the order, but she declined. He then paid US$95 for the job and when he left, the receptionist advised her superiors and they discovered that the template resembled a Zinara licence disc.

A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of Mapurisa who implicated Zishiri.
