A Chinhoyi man is on the run after shooting and killing a man passing by his homestead who he accused of having an adulterous affair with his wife.

Elias Munhundowarwa (28) of Plot 2, Ringari Farm in Chinhoyi was driving an ox-drawn cart when tragedy struck. He passed through Weston Murarahanda’s homestead who long suspected him of having an affair with his wife. Munhundowarwa was coming from Nakaswa Business Centre when Murarahanda (32) saw him and allegedly took his shotgun and fired a shot directed at him.

The shot hit Munhundowarwa on the right armpit and he died on the spot.  On realising what he had done, Murarahanda disappeared from the scene leaving behind the shotgun — serial number F63538 and a spent cartridge was recovered on the scene.
Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara, confirmed the incident saying police were looking for Murarahanda. The body

was taken to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital for a post-mortem.

“We would like to urge people to seek counselling from our community relations officers at all our police stations or consult others and avoid taking matters into their own hands,” he said.
He said police were investigating whether the firearm was registered or not.
