KANO — Gunmen shot dead a local lawmaker yesterday in a restive northeastern Nigerian city where Islamist group Boko Haram has carried out deadly attacks, residents and a police source said. Adamu Deguri, a member of the Yobe state legislature, was shot dead in front of his house at Unguwar Tandari in Potiskum, the police source said on condition of anonymity.
“A group of six gunmen driving in a bus with no plate number trailed the lawmaker to his house and shot him dead as he was about to come out of his car outside his house,’ the source said.
“No arrest has been made yet.”
The motive for the killing was not yet clear.
Boko Haram has committed              many such attacks, but political vendettas have also been carried               out in Nigeria’s northeast and elsewhere.
Boko Haram has attacked Potiskum a number of times.
