SHABANIE MINE players were promised a hefty bonus following their triumph over Hwange at the Colliery on Sunday. Chinda Boys team manager Samson “Dread” Gondwe yesterday said the players were going to get extra cash after climbing into third spot on the table at the weekend.
“I am happy with the victory. I am going to top the players’ bonuses this evening (yesterday) and I am also holding a braai for them tonight as they are no longer playing tomorrow (today).
“I am, however, not at liberty to say how much I will give the players.” “I have told people that Shabanie will pull a surprise this season and they were refusing but look at what we achieved.
“Our position on the log says it all and I have branded our play Jungata or Shaolin soccer because it has confused some teams.”
Gondwe usually tops the players’ bonuses if they play well.
He even goes a step further by hiring buses for the Chinda Boys’ fans who always struggle to travel to away matches.
Shabanie usually rely on the support from the community.
Gondwe once fought a lone battle when Shabanie nearly got the chop by giving financial support to the team last season.
He is happy with the way the club has been transformed this season although he blasted his players for the home defeat they suffered at the hands ofHighlanders.
Shabanie handed Hwange their heaviest defeat of the season last Sunday with goals from veteran Lennon Chisunga, Caleb Masocha and doublescorer Nelson Mazivisa.
Meanwhile, the Premier Soccer League has suspended the weekend programme because of the Warriors participation in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Burundi.
Domestic football will only resume next Wednesday when Dynamos host Harare City at Rufaro as the Harare giants battle to clear a fixtures backlog.
DeMbare have played seven games, three less than the other teams.
They would then engage Gunners the following weekend before they host Angolan giants Inter-clube in the Confederation Cup third round tie at Rufaro on July 1.
Log leaders Highlanders will travel to Harare in their next match to face former champions Motor Action at Rufaro on Saturday, June 23.
