Seven Zanu-PF members have appeared in court on allegations of fatally assaulting an MDC-T activist in
a politically-motivated attack in Mudzi.
The seven were charged with murder and public violence when they appeared before a Mutoko magistrate yesterday.
Zanu-PF councillor in Mudzi David Chimukoko (45) and six others appeared before Mutoko magistrate Mr Danny Marecha and were remanded in custody to June 15.
Six others are Graciano Kazingizi (33), Biggie Office (30), Raphael Bobo (31), Perkins Karikoga (27), Phillip Katsande (59) and Eric Chatiza (44).
Mr Marecha advised them to apply for bail at the High Court.
Prosecutor Mr Munyaradzi Mushohwe said a group of MDC-T supporters were holding a rally at Chimukoko Business Centre in Mudzi District. The accused were also holding their own “dry show” meeting at a community hall at the same business centre.
Mr Mushohwe alleged that the seven armed themselves with a variety of weapons. They are alleged to have attacked the MDC-T members.
It is during the attack, according to the State that Cephas Magura (60) was fatally assaulted.
According to a post-mortem conducted at Parirenyatwa Hospital by Dr Gabriel Aguero, Magura died of “severe head injuries due to brain oedema due to assault”.
Meanwhile, Magura who was MDC-T ward chairman in Mudzi North will be buried at his rural home tomorrow.
The principals in the three parties have vowed to have zero tolerance to violence.
