Herald Reporter A BULAWAYO man allegedly posed as a worker at Blanket Gold Mine in Gwanda and operated a racket of selling fake gold. Allen Moyo alias Chimombe from Lobengula, Bulawayo, was arrested on Thursday
while trying to sell 351,8 grammes of fake gold. Border Control and Minerals Unit spokesperson Detective Inspector Shelter Rufu confirmed the arrest. Det Insp Rufu said police received a tip off that Moyo was selling gold and luring prospective buyers by misrepresenting that he worked for Blanket Gold Mine. She said detectives set a trap for Moyo. Det Insp Rufu said the detectives posed as buyers and requested for the mineral from Moyo who claimed he had 351, 8 grams of gold. “He was subsequently arrested with some pieces of fake gold nuggets which he was claiming was genuine gold. He was taken to Gwanda Police Station,” Det Insp Rufu said. The nuggets, she said, were examined at Blanket Gold Mine where it was established that they were fake. Moyo is suspected to have duped several people using that method. Det Insp Rufu said Moyo will appear in court soon.
