PRIMARY schools in the Midlands and Mashonaland West are set to clash in the Kadoma Junior Cricket festival at Kadoma Sports Club next month. The tournament, which is expected to get under way on

June 16, has attracted players from Lady Tait, Sir John Kennedy, Chedonje, Kuredza, Sinoia and Hartley.
Mashonaland West provincial development officer Adam Chifo said they had also invited schools from Kwekwe.

“The tournament is going to be very interesting as we have also invited Kwekwe Primary, Bryden Country School and Eiffel Flats Junior.
“All the preparations are going on well and we are looking forward to the festival.
“We are glad that we have received sponsorship from well-wishers from around the community of Kadoma and that includes Kadoma Spar, Conroc Company and John Kearns.

“The Under-13 school teams are delighted that the festival is coming once again this year,” said Chifo.
The tournament started in 2000 and has helped groom players like Friday Kasteni, who went on to play for the national team, Simbarashe Gupo, who plays for Mash

Eagles, Neville Madziva, Nyasha Mayavo, Richard Muzhange, and Tendai Chitongo, who play for the Midwest Rhinos.
“Solomon Mire and Kasteni are playing great cricket in Australia and we are happy that all these players have come through our development programmes.

“Kadoma Cricket Club first class players also take part at this tournament by umpiring, scoring and officiating,” said Chifo. Hartley 1 Junior are the current champions.
