ENVIRONMENT and Natural Resources Minister Francis Nhema has commended both the public and private media for coverage of environmental issues. He was addressing editors and senior media personnel during the official opening of a one day

editor’s indaba organised by the Zimbabwe Environmental Journalists Association (ZEJA.
“Our national papers should also be applauded for complementing ZEJA’s role and agreeing to allot space for such issues to continue to be highlighted,” Minster Nhema said.

He singled out The Herald, saying it was leading with its climate change column published on Mondays.
Minister Nhema, who is also the patron of ZEJA, challenged newspaper editors and other media to achieve maximum coverage of environmental issues.

ZEJA board chairman Mr Ismail Shillaev said this was a unique and important forum that would enable editors and various stakeholders to discuss key environmental issues and find ways of promoting them through the media.

The forum, attended by more than 20 editors and senior journalists under the theme “Towards promoting green journalism in Zimbabwe”, sought to create a platform for senior journalists to meet Government officials and discuss environmental issues.
Key topics including state of the environment, climate change and role of media in environment were discussed.
