Army officers die in crash PDF Print E-mail

Two army officers Captain Mary Mureza and Warrant Officer Class Two Mufaro Jokonya died in a car accident on Sunday while coming from the burial of ZNA commander General Constantine Chiwenga’s brother Wilfred.


The accident occurred in Wedza.

Capt Mureza, whose Chimurenga name was Mary Zvichanaka, was declared a provincial heroine and will be buried today.
Mourners are gathered at Cranbone West Married Quarters.
Warrant Officer Class Two Jokonya will be buried tomorrow at Jokonya Village in Buhera. Mourners are gathered at Chikurubi Support Unit Camp.
A joint church service will be held at 1 Commando Regiment at 0800hrs today followed by a joint parade at Army Headquarters, KG6 Barracks.

Defence Minister Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa said Mureza was attested into the ZNA as a private at independence.
“She rose through the ranks to Captain, the rank she held until her untimely death,” he said.
“She was decorated with the following medals for her outstanding performance and dedication to duty — Independence Medal, DRC Campaign, and the 10 and 15 years’ service medal.”

Cde Mnangagwa said that the late Warrant Officer Class Two Jokonya joined the army on June 1, 1982.
“She rose to the rank of Warrant Officer Class Two, the position she held until time of her death,” he said.
“For her outstanding performance and dedication to duty, she was also accorded several medals.”
Captain Mureza is survived by her husband Richard Dube and four daughters, while Warrant Officer Class Two Jokonya is survived by her husband and four sons.
