The 29-year-old forward, once ranked as one of the top 20 African players after the African Youth Championships in Guinea in 1999, believes he still has some unfinished business with the senior national team.
Kawondera turned himself into one of the key players for the Warriors during the middle part of the past decade and left a big impression during two 2006 World

Cup/Nations Cup qualifiers against Algeria (away) and Angola (at home).
Interestingly, the Warriors will face Angola for the right to play at the 2013 Nations Cup finals.
A lot has changed since then, the Warriors are now a poor shadow of that team and the Palancas Negras have transformed a lot, including qualifying for the 2006

World Cup, and a battery of new stars have emerged on their horizon.
Striker, Manucho, was even considered good enough for Manchester United by Sir Alex Ferguson who signed him.
Kawondera, back home after a decade spent playing professional football in Europe, says he is using his homecoming show to launch the final phase of his career.

Chinyama, who also spent years playing in Poland, has successfully re-launched his career after a period of stagnation in which injuries haunted him.
He is set to join South African champions Orlando Pirates, after just six months at Dynamos, and has also forced his way back into the Warriors.
Kawondera has played two games for CAPS United and is set to play his third at Gwanzura on Sunday and, although he has made an impression, he is yet to score.

But he remains high on confidence that he will make a big impression in the next few months and win a recall into the Warriors.
“I think if I work hard and stay injury-free I will get a call up,” said Kawondera.
“I am always ready for selection and I am available. I am a true Warrior and real Warriors never quit.

“In terms of fitness I am okay but still lacking that sharpness.”
The former Darryn T star says the standards of the domestic Premiership have slumped since the last time he played on the local scene.
“I think the level of the game is a bit down and I am talking from the two games that I have played,” said Kawondera.

“There have been a lot of opportunities for the players moving to better leagues but the league itself is going down compared to what it was before.
“I know there is a lot of expectation but I will not put myself under pressure and will do my best.
“I think all the other players look up to me and Washy (Pakamisa) is always asking for advice at training and I am ready to help them.

“I will form a better partnership with any striker I play with and, as a player, I can never be happy to lose and after every game I go home and analyse my performance.”

Kawondera said his strike-partner, Evans Gwekwerere, needed to work hard to bring himself into the right condition to play 90 minutes of explosive action.
“He needs to work hard because he is carrying a bit of weight right now and the pace of the game and the way we are playing now needs one to be in peak physical condition,” said Kawondera.

“That also applies to me and I am working hard and you can see that my shape is getting better and better all the time.
“It applies to all the players because this is what we do for a living.”
Kawondera also revealed that he has been concentrating on education and studying for a degree in Political Science.

“I still had more to play for in Cyprus in Division One but opted for Division Two because I was concentrating more in education,” said Kawondera.
“But now I am back to professional football and it feels great and I am excited to be back home.
“I have an offer right now to play outside the country but I want to stay in Zimbabwe, at least for six months. But with football you never know.”

Speaking at the same media briefing, CAPS United coach Sean Connor said he respected the team management’s decision to axe skipper David Sengu.
The Northern Irishman revealed that vice-captain, Tapuwa Kumbuyani, is now the new skipper.
Sengu was fired for leading a player revolt after a delay in the payment of their salaries.

Kumbuyani, who may find himself getting stiff competition at wingback from new signing Hardlife Zvirekwi, becomes the fourth player to  lead the Green Machine.
When the season began goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda was the captain before Edmore Chafungamoyo was briefly given the armband before Sengu took over.
Connor believes the arrival of the new players will see the team having more depth and the Irish gaffer is confident that Kawondera will bring a lot of experience and guidance to his players.

“We have got two new strikers and that is going to give us the best,” said Connor.
“We still got a couple of slots available and maybe there is going to be one departure.

“The young striker (Leonard Fiyado) impressed me when we played them and then there is also Shingi, I think the players will learn a lot more from him.
“There is nothing wrong with his fitness he worked his socks off for 50 minutes in the first game and 90 minutes more last week.”
Makepekepe will host Hwange at Gwanzura this Sunday and would be missing goalkeeper Sibanda and Pakamisa who are recovering following their head injuries during the Black Mambas match and are wearing cervical collars to assist with the recovery programme.

Connor said while the 1-0 defeat to Highlanders was disappointing he believes his team was ready to bounce back quickly.
“We haven’t got a consistent run of form from a lot of players,” said Connor.

Kumbuyani said he was not concerned about the threat posed by the arrival of Zvirekwi.
“I am not worried and it is actually good for the team.
The Highlanders match is now water under the bridge and we are now focusing on Hwange,” said Kumbuyani.
