Iggy Azalea insists there is no “beef” between her and Britney Spears after their duet “Pretty Girls” flopped in the charts. The song has garnered over 78 million YouTube views for its music video and landed the duo at the No. 29 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. But for stars like Iggy Azalea and Britney Spears, these numbers are considered a “flop”. After “Pretty Girls” was deemed a Song of the Summer misfire, controversy arose via social media as it seemed the two hitmakers had spawned a “beef”.

But Iggy (25) took to Twitter on Tuesday to clear the air – saying that her and Britney (33) are “still friends”.

Iggy went on to blame the media for twisting her and Britney’s words, creating fictional bad blood out of love for drama.

“I am honestly not surprised”, Iggy wrote, “but still really saddened that the media is trying to create a ‘beef’ between @britneyspears and myself.”

Iggy had previously said that the song had been a flop due to promotional issues. But people took that to mean that she was blaming Britney and her camp.

And when Britney posted a tweet featuring the hashtag #YouWantAPieceOfMe, social media took this as this beginning of the biggest beef since Biggie vs Tupac.

But Iggy argued that the backlash was all hype. “We remain friends,” the Australian rapper tweeted, “and I haven’t said anything negative at all about her. Does wishing we had promoted a single more make me the bad guy?”

Of course, Iggy is no shrinking violet when it comes to her overtly sexualised music videos and songs, with other tracks including “Booty”, a recent collaboration with Jennifer Lopez.

Yet despite her gyrating stage antics, Iggy continued to rant on Twitter: “I feel like the media wants women in music to get out and mud wrestle each other,” she wrote. “As a woman I take great offence.”

She continued: “I feel like the Press just wants to see girls be overtly sexual to one another, and have no real opinion other than ‘I love it!’.”

Initially, “Pretty Girls” was projected as the summer smash of the year but it seems the eighties-inspired music video was not enough to become a fan favourite, much less remain on constant radio airplay.

Iggy and Britney’s only major performance gig was at the Billboard Music Awards in May when the duo recorded a pre-taped segment for the ceremony.

“Pretty Girls” has been predicted as the lead single off of Britney’s untitled ninth album, although it has yet to have an official release date.

Early in the year, the “Fancy” hit- maker revealed that the “powerhouse duet” could have been her very own track. And if Iggy had it her way, Britney would be the featured artiste instead of herself.

“I rewrote parts of it and it became my song, and I tried to make it all mine and keep it,” she shared with Access Hollywood.

Then she said: “No, no, I am going to take it, my album is ready.”

With a new line of lingerie and sleepwear in addition to parenting her two sons Jayden and Sean, the “Oops I Did It Again” singer arguably has her hands full.

Meanwhile, Iggy has had a run of bad luck. In early June, Iggy shockingly cancelled her massive Great Escape tour because she “had a different creative change of heart”.

On the heels of scrapping her world tour, she was forced to cancel her headlining appearance at the Pittsburgh Gay Pride Show that same month, after facing backlash for using profane name-calling towards the LGBTQ community.

In better news, Iggy’s personal life is going well.

Longtime boyfriend Nick Young asked for her hand in marriage with a 10,43 carat, $500000 diamond ring on June 1 after 21 months of dating. – dailymail.
