Singer Kelly Khumalo is slowly making a comeback after a tragedy that left her without the father of her child and the nation without one of it’s rising stars.

Speaking to Sowetan LIVE at a Press conference held at Universal Records in Rosebank, Johannesburg, Khumalo said that she did not get to see or experience the ‘‘hate’’ that everyone has been talking about following the death of her boy- friend.

Kelly’s boyfriend and baby daddy Senzo Meyiwa, who was also both Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates’ captain, was shot and killed at Kelly’s mother’s home in Vosloorus in what has since been described as a ‘‘botched’’ robbery. The killers are still at large.

In an exclusive interview with Sowetan LIVE, Kelly said that she has only received love from her fans.

“All I saw was so much love. The kind of love that makes you teary because in your little corner, in your own home you don’t grasp or understand how much you are loved and it is only now that I saw so much love. I am humbled and I will never get over this,” she said.

Though still visibly hurt by the passing of her loved one, Kelly has embraced and accepted the loss.

“Why not me? Who else? Whose child should be going through what I am going through? she asked

“With God you never say why me?,” she added.

“The Bible says his plan is to prosper you not to harm you. The fire can be there but it’s not there to harm you,” said Khu- malo.

When asked about the traditional cleansing ceremony following the funeral, Kelly said that she is not ready to talk about Meyiwa.

“I am not going to talk about Senzo, I am not going to talk about any issue that surrounds Senzo. I think I was Kelly Khumalo before Senzo, before anyone else and I was a musician before that.”

For now the singer is turning to her music for healing.

“I think music has always saved me, in any situation. I’m from a Christian background and I started singing at Sunday School. Singing has become my everything,” she said.

“I sing when I am sad, I sing when I am happy. So music has somehow just made me the person I am today.”

Khumalo also took some time to address the recent talks about her latest single ‘Asine’.

“After the incident with Senzo, people started questioning the song ‘Asine’. It was written in April. Chicco said it was about a woman who was accused [of killing] her husband. I jumped into doing the song because I’m a feminist and I represent those silent voices of women,” she said.

“Little did I know that the song was somehow prophetic,” she added.

The singer explained that the song was not written about her but rather that it represents ‘women who have been accused of things that they did not know about and are not responsible for’. – Sowetan.
