Roots/reggae act Mic Inity made a sensational comeback on stage at the weekend with a new album titled “Survivor” launched at Misty’s at Newlands Shopping Centre.

Mic Inity, born Mike Madamombe, made a grand entrance to live performance and proved himself as a crowd-pleaser at an event that was marked by all the razzmatazz.

The album launch was graced by some of the who-is-who of Harare and an “A” list line-up of performing artistes among them Roki, BaShupi, Stunner, Sniper Storm and Dhadza D, while the emcee on the night was the legendary Tich Mataz.

A surprise guest was dub poet Albert Nyathi, who recited one of his poems, “Shakespeare”, which he dedicated to Mic Inity, whom he called his son.

“This is what I love to do and I see myself as a survivor,” Mic Inity told The Herald Entertainment minutes before his act.

After a rather turbulent four-year period in which his music career took a tumble due to his private life, Mic Inity says he wants to right all the wrongs from the past.

And perhaps the first thing to do is to humble himself before fans.

Yes, there is no doubt that he is talented and one of the best vocalists in recent years, but Mic Inity needs to be level-headed so that he doesn’t step on other people’s toes.

Unlike most album launches in the capital that run late, Mic Inity’s gig, which coincided with his birthday, started on time and there were no dull moments as artistes took to the stage in succession to entertain the mature crowd that turned up.

Zim dancehall act Dhadza D opened the show with an energetic act which got the audience up on the dance floor.

Though brief, it whetted the appetite of revellers and more was to come. Sniper Storm rocked the mic and free-styled, much to the delight of the audience and then came Stunner, who also showed his creativity when he rode on a reggae/dancehall riddim.

It was amazing to watch Stunner getting into the groove with ease.

As has become the norm whenever Stunner and BaShupi grace the same event, they performed their duet — “Godo” — before Stunner exited the stage.

The party continued with BaShupi belting a medley of songs by fallen and living legends.

The crowd loved it but again it was not for long.

Roki, who is riding high with the release of his new video “Number 1”, found his rhythm and made his presence felt with an amazing performance.

And when Mic Inity hit the stage dressed to the nines, the crowd was already in a merry mood such that his job was just to put icing on the cake.

Of his new 12-track album, watch out for “Song For Mama”, a tribute to his mother who passed away some years ago and “Girl You Look Good”.
