NEVER MILAZI will take part in his second professional golf tournament at the annual Hwange Open which tees off this morning at Hwange Golf Club. The tournament will come barely three weeks after the National Aids Council Pro-Am at Royal Harare. Milanzi, of Country Club, made his debut appearance at the NAC tournament and missed the cut.

“I am looking forward to the tournament and I want to improve from my first outing which was a learning curve. I know Hwange course is challenging but I will try my best to make the cut. The tournament will be very competitive but I have been practicing hard. There is a lot of competition and for someone who recently graduated from the amateur ranks, I need to prove that I am now ripe for the big stage.

“I know I have a chance and the tournament has come at the right time as I used the NAC Pro-Am to assess myself and I am now confident,” said Milazi. The player will have to contend with seasoned campaigners like Brian Gondo, the 2013 Hwange Open champion, who will return to the field hoping for another win. The Hwange Open will have a Pro-Am this morning while over 40 professionals, who confirmed their participation in the tournament, will take to the field tomorrow for a tourney that carries over $10 000 in prize money. The Hwange Open is one of the few Zimbabwe Professional Golf Association tournaments left on the calendar after Marange Resources had a one-off tournament while the Lowveld Pro-Am still hangs in the balance. Ryan Cairns, who is playing well on the Sunshine Tour, is likely to be one of the main contenders alongside the likes of Nyasha Muyambo, Ignatius Mketeteke and Tongo Charamba. Garry Thompson, Day Muyambo, Peter Banda, Howard Bauti, Thembelani Vundha and Munashe Madhodha can also make their presence felt.
