Preparations for the inagural Miss Independence Zimbabwe scheduled to take place in April this year are at advanced stage. The pageant which is a brainchild of Zimbabwe Integrated Traders Association will see hosting of the auditions from February 1 to March 5 in all provinces and selected representatives will compete for the title at the finale.

The event will run under the theme ‘Showcasing the Beauty of Independence’ in a bid to celebrate national beauty by showcasing the art of self and national pride.

Show organiser Robert Bhamu said the pageant wil be held two weeks prior to the Independence Day.

“We are happy so far with the preparations as some corporates are showing interest.

“Our purpose is to help bring out this reality to all concerned people both in and out of the country and to lobby for their support.

“The auditions will begin first day of February at respective areas and all girls from all provinces are eligible to participate,” he said.

He said there are working on the prizes for the winners which will be issued on the night at a venue to be announced next week.

“We are going to unveil the prize for the winners at a ceremony to be conducted during the auditions period.

“We plan to give the winners their prizes on the night so that it will be over and done.

“The winner of Miss Independence Zimbabwe and her princess as well provincial queens will be ambassadors to both conscientise and carry out poverty alleviation projecs that will benefit our people,” he said.

Bhamu also called in for designers who want to take part in the initiative so as to dress the models during the ramp.

He said the pageant will cater for girls aged from 17 – 26 years.

“We have set up a team which is already working on the modalities. We are in talks with some of the country’s beauty queens to help us in the grooming and development.

“We are calling for designers who want to work with us to come and at the same time we are giving them platform to shine through dressing the finalists.”
