Huwaei P8Huawei will launch its latest flagship for the African market – the Huawei P8 – in Johannesburg, South Africa, today. The launch has already attracted a lot of attention since it comes a few months after the worldwide launch early this year. Huawei Zimbabwe public relations officer Mr Ngonidzashe Mangwendeza told TechnoMag, their official online media partner, that the Huawei P8 will be available on the local market later this month.

“The P8 will be available in Zimbabwe mid-July at the Huawei shop along Robert Mugabe Road in Harare and all Econet shops countrywide at a price of $700. The phone will come with a one- year warranty, full back-up and service will be available through our service centre.”

The most outstanding features on the smartphone are the design, camera and its unique antenna capabilities which are well suited for the African market.

It has a slick metal body, rounded corners, and chamfered edges on the metal bezel, measuring 5,2-inch and a 1080p screen.

The phone looks bigger that the Samsung Galaxy S6 in terms of the length and width although it’s slightly thinner.

It has a new camera, which is the world’s first four-colour 13MP RGBW imaging that boasts an F2.0 large aperture with HD video capacity from four different shooting angles.

Its 8MP front camera has a built-in 10-level beauty enhancement which automatically reduces any blemishes, imperfections and skin tones to give beautiful, perfect photos with every single shot.

It appears Huawei, which has vast experience in base station equipment, has managed to transfer that knowledge to benefit their devices, a move which brands like Samsung and iPhone have not yet achieved.

They have brought in a new antenna which makes it possible to easily pick up weak signals in the few seconds of booting up without using much power, meaning even if one is travelling or in rural areas where the signal is weak, the user will still have be reachable.

This is a plus as most people travelling in Zimbabwe have complained about poor coverage and grey spots in some areas.

“The antenna is backed up by a proprietary chipset, Huawei’s Hisilicon Kirin 930. This is a 2GHz, 64-bit processor which competes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 you see in a lot of other top-end smartphones,” said a Huawei official.

The launch comes a few weeks after local companies Astro and Gtel unveiled their own products.

It will be interesting to see how the market will respond to this new offering as the smartphone world continues to aggressively innovate and improve on product delivery.
