How was your Agric Show experience?

MELISAAugust is well known to be a month heavily filled with fun for the young as they enjoy their school holidays. This week the topic is the Harare Agricultural Show. Love it or hate it, you cannot ignore it. So this week the teen paper finds out what the teens think:

This year’s agricultural show was so exciting, it was funny everywhere especially for us the young. I hope that it continues like this because I have managed to learn a lot from it and it’s not only me but most the children, they have managed to enjoy themselves and had fun. I also got a chance to get myself tested at the Medecins San Frontiers stall and now I know my status.

Moesha Mureya, 15 years, Warren Park 1 High.

I’m happy with this year’s show as I have leant a lot of things from it, one thing that I liked was the Medecins San Frontiers stage where I got a chance to get tested and I am happy that I know my status. I want to thank the Ministry of Higher Education for their stand as they taught and motivated the young and youth to love school and there were also university stands offering career guidance and the programmes to do depending on subjects one is studying at school.

This year’s show was better compared to that of last time, people were happy and enjoyed it. For me the show brought a lot of educational stuff as I learnt a lot. I learnt so much about agriculture and animal rearing. Now I know what is needed when one is keeping animals and that they also need to stay in a clean place. I got a chance to see and get a photo taken with the tallest man.

I have learnt a lot from the show, because of the many exhibitors that were there. One of the things was being able to shoot a gun which was being offered by the Ministry of Defence stand. I also got a chance to ride a horse something that most of us don’t do as they can only be found on farms.

I like the way these people are organised, I managed to visit the soldiers’ stand and I learnt a lot from them, and I really appreciated their patience. They are good at explaining their line of work that one is not left hanging, they give you all the details that you want to know about the army and how they operate. I learnt a lot from them, so this year’s show was the best for me.

Pattison Hute, 16, Mazowe High.

Since it was my first time to go to the show I enjoyed a lot. The place is full of fun. There were many activities for the young and I got the opportunity to go horse riding. I’m happy that I went there as I learnt a lot to do with farming and that working hard always pays and that there is wealth in the soil. It also motivated me to be a farmer as I liked the different types of animals there especially cattle.

For me it was so brilliant as it was my first time to go there and I also learnt a lot. I got the chance to ride horses and to learn more about agriculture and the importance of land.

Have learnt a lot especially from those stands that had to with agriculture. I learnt about animal rearing and tobacco farming from the TIMB stand. They gave a lot of much details on what one needs to do when dealing with tobacco seeds.

The agricultural show educated us so that we know different things and it also offered us the young career guidance from the different stands that were there. Apart from educational issues that they offered there was entertainment for everyone. It also gave me and my group from Mufakose 3 the chance to showcase our traditional dance to such a huge crowd.

Michael Madani, 17, Mufakose 3 High.

This year’s show was good because I noticed that a lot has improved as compared to the previous years, and I have learnt a lot. For me I liked the police stand and the educational information that they provided when I visited them. They explained everything to my satisfaction.

As a first time visitor to the agricultural show I expected much but I did not see it. But I’m happy that I have learnt something. I visited a lot of stands and I learnt so much from them.

The show was good but I was expecting more than what I witnessed this year, but all I can say is that I learnt a lot. I got the chance to fire some gun shots from the army stand and they also taught me how to start a helicopter and their war tank.

Rodrick Nyamanda, 14, Goromonzi High.
