Chitungwiza Central Hospital is seeking about US$250 million to upgrade into a five-star hospital, with a private wing offering services like those accessible at other modern hospitals.Speaking at a cancer awareness campaign on Tuesday evening, the hospital’s chief executive Dr Obadiah Moyo said the vision to modify the hospital should be realised.

“We need our hospital to become a centre of diagnostic excellence with a cancer centre for identification, confirmation and categorisation of cancers under one support unit,” he said.

Dr Moyo said the building of infrastructure was anticipated to take a period of four to five years since the project had already started. He said they had secured some investors from Austria for the provision of necessary equipment and there were others from South Africa ready to assist with infrastructural development.

“Local companies are welcome to come and partner with us as we are looking forward to getting more partnerships to make this project a success,” said Dr Moyo. He said the hospital was designed to accommodate over 1 500 patients, with both a private and public wing.

Th3 hospital is one of the highly-regarded Government health institutions in the country with state-of-the-art equipment.
