All is set for the Africa University shut-down party today in Mutare. Speaking to The Herald Entertainment show organiser Gerald Themba, popularly known as Jellzy, said all expected artistes have confirmed participation and are already in Mutare.

“We have a line-up of hip-hop artistes such as MMT, Merciless Zim, Diggs who are set to perform including DJs such as Chucknosis, Sachie and CC Exclusive among others.

“The team is already in Mutare and some fireworks are expected with both artistes will deliver some of their old and latest songs,” he said.

He said the party is for the students but will use the opportunity to promote the Zim hip-hop.

“We have a lot of upcoming musicians in the hip hop community and we saw the chance to expose their talent at the party. Hip hop is growing and it’s favourite to many especially students so we saw it necessary to have them have a feel of it. The musicians come from Mutare and Harare,” he said.

Jellzy said they will be a guest appearance from Gweru-based dance group called Atlanta.

“It will not only be music but we are also having a dance battle between host town Mutare group Reflections and Gweru’s Atlanta crew. It is more of a promotional show and we are continuing with the Universities tour,” he said.

The organiser said the selected deejays will play some of the music by other artistes.

“We have asked some groups and individuals who are failing to make it to submit the CDs of which we got overwhelming response hence our deejays will play their music at the party as a sample to the students. It is just like paving way to the artistes,” he said.

He said apart from tonight show there are working on Harare show dubbed 16 Buzz which will be held at Book Cafe.

“We are working on another project called 16 Buzz where we will have 16 artist performing from dance to music. I am happy that the hip-hop community is fast growing just like the Zim dancehall. We now have a lot of new upcoming artistes with hit videos. It is just lack of exposure and support which is hindering the community,” he said.
