Craig Bullock, the chief executive of Danceweb Studios, a dance company based in South Africa is expected in Harare on August 23 where he will conduct dance lessons starting at 11am to 3pm at the National Ballet.
Bullock was invited by Tendai Guzha of Dance-1st International to attend the first ever “Hip-hop Dance Stop” workshops that would cater for aspiring hip-hop, R&B, and house dancers.

“We are encouraging those who want to learn how to dance either hip-hop, R&B or house to come and join us at the National Ballet. We are going to hold several workshops conducted by experts in dance. This is an opportunity for upcoming dancers to get things right before they pursue a career in dance.

“Also coming is Kirsten Dan Jensen based in Denmark, who is the secretary of International Dance Organisation, Guzha said.
Guzha said it was about time dancers go professional so that they earn more from their talent.

“Imagine Zimbabwe has played host to so many international artistes who when they come have to hire local dancers but unfortunately they don’t do that because they look for professional dancers which at the moment are few,” he said.

The internationally acclaimed choreographer Bullock has so many accolades up his sleeves including the “IDO World Street Dance Hip-hop Formation” which he won in 2011.

Dance-1st International, is an internationally recognised hip-hop and street dance school that opened  in Mt Pleasant under the guidance of Guzha.
The 23-year-old professional dancer graduated with a certificate from Dance Web Studios, an affiliate of the South African Dance Teachers’ Association. The school, probably the first of its kind, seeks to take hip-hop dance to a whole new level starting with beginners, intermediate as well as advanced stages.

According to Guzha, the school seeks to provide trained dancers who will be able to perform alongside international acts.
For those not in the know, Guzha started out in 2004 as a member of a dance group called Dcronic where he developed choreography skills. In summer of 2007 he formed his own group called “Public Felony” where he explored his skills as a choreographer. He was the only choreographer in the group.

In late 2009, Guzha realised the need to form a powerful group with both the skill and passion. In early 2010, he came up with the vision of a group that became to be known as High Definition Dance Group, which unfortunately split as Guzha went solo.
