As usual Hifa caters for those whose taste runs to classical music with the HIFA Chamber Music Programme 2015 offering a daily concert for each of the six days of the festival. Mozart recitals are on today, Thursday and Saturday with Beethoven and Mendelssohn reserved for Friday. Our very own pianist par excellence Jeanette Micklem performs Ravel Valses nobles et sentimentales on Saturday.

Performers include The Kwazulu-Natal Philharmonic String Quartet comprising Joanna Marie Frankel (violin), Violeta Osorhean (violin), David Snaith (viola) and David Pinoit (cello).

Opera lovers have also been catered for with the 2015 CABS Opera Gala. On Wednesday evening at the ZOL Mainstage patrons can expect the now traditional night of musical magic under the stars featuring favourite arias and ensembles from many of the world’s most loved operas.

The Zimspiration choir trained by Kundisai Mtero will join soloists in well-known choruses. The gala will be accompanied by musicians performing in the KPMG Classical Music Programme led by the dazzlingly talented American pianist, conductor and musical director, Gerald Steichen.

Stars to hold your breath for include Laquita Mitchell, Indra Thomas, Krysty Swann, James Valenti and Lester Lynch. Join them as they take you through the truly universal expression of profound human emotion to be found in opera’s gamut of romance, drama, death and transformation.
