ZIMBABWE is sending a high-powered delegation to the World Tourism Market in London as the country seeks to consolidate the promotion, development and marketing of the country as one of Africa’s most attractive and safe tourist destinations.
Despite the political stand-off between Zimbabwe and Britain, WTM remains one of the major source markets of Zimbabwe’s tourism business given that thousands of exhibitors from all over the world gather to market their tapestries.

WTM runs from November 3 to 7 in Excel, London, and is regarded among the world’s top tourism exhibitions where tourist wholesalers, businesspeople, investors, captains of industry and government ministries gather to do business.

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, the official tourism marketing arm of the Government, is leading a delegation of hoteliers, business people and captains of industry to the WTM arena as it seeks to consolidate Zimbabwe’s position in the world tourism family, especially after successfully hosting the United Nations World Tourism Organisation General Assembly in Victoria Falls in August.

ZTA head of public relations and corporate affairs Mr Sugar Chagonda says Zimbabwe was confident of clinching serious business deals especially with its image having been bolstered by the successful hosting of the UNWTO General Assembly and the just ended Sanganai/Hlanganani World Travel and Tourism Fair, Africa.

“Once again we are sending a high-powered delegation comprising officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, ZTA, hoteliers and other businesspeople.

“This is a prime tourism exposition and a leading global tourism event. UK is one of our prime source markets and we will use the 34th edition WTM to exhibit our tourist attractions. We are also taking this as an opportunity to update ourselves with the latest industry trends and opinion and we are optimistic that our businesspeople will clinch big deals there,’’ said Mr Chagonda.

WTM is very critical to Zimbabwe at a time when the country is poised for greater heights given that Egypt and Kenya have lost the confidence of the tourism family after the political turmoil and terrorist attacks.

Zimbabwe wishes to take advantage of the situation in those countries and provide the much needed alternative given our prevailing peace and tranquillity and besides, Zimbabwe has some of the most attractive tourist attractions, that can satisfy any discerning tourist.
