Pangiso was the captain of the team last year when Harare won the championships and his strong show at the selection event at Prince Edward last Sunday saw him winning a place in the team again.
The Zimbabwe Prison Services Athletics Club athlete won the senior men’s 12km race in 38 minutes 33 seconds, beating Jonathan Chinyoka by just a second.

Chinyoka has also been selected into the team that will also feature Gilbert Mutandiro of Lobels, Millen Matende of the Zimbabwe National Army, Point Chaza (ZPS) and Dzingai Dandara.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Athletics Club runner Jairos Makonese, who finished seventh at the selection event on Sunday, and Alford Nego of the ZPS complete the slots.

Constance Nyasango and her sister-in-law Faith Nyasango will lead the HAB women’s team. Constance is the sister of seasoned middle distance runner Cutbert, who is married to Faith.
Alicen Manake from Lobels, Roseline Usayi of Mabelreign Girls High School and Rudo Marowatsanga make up the women’s team. Up-and-coming junior Feathermore Chiriseri of Mufakose has been included in the senior team.

Patience Munyai and Sarah Murefu have also been shopped from the juniors to make up the full complement of the senior women’s team.
HAB secretary Silas Muringani said they have roped in the juniors as part of a development programme that will prepare them for future events.

The Harare athletes were taking a rest yesterday but are expected to meet today and start their preparations.
“Elijah Tapatapa from the University of Zimbabwe has been appointed the provincial coach for this team and he will be assisted by John Mlilo from the ZPS. We hope the athletes will work with the coaches on

Tuesday (today) and then follow a programme on Wednesday before meeting again on Thursday at PE. Depending on what the coaches propose, the athletes could be given programmes to follow during the week at their clubs,” said Muringani. Muringani is confident that his team will once again retain the championship, as they will field a full compliment in all the races.
“The other provinces struggle to raise a full squad,” said Muringani.
