WITH his team proving to be among the strong contenders for this year’s World Navi Northern Region Division One soccer league championship, Gunners coach Kudakwashe Masaraure has revealed they are now eyeing the title. At the start of the season, the 2009 Premiership champions ruled themselves out of contention for the title race arguing that they were on a building exercise.

But after assessing their performance in the league and also analysing the quality of their opponents, Gunners have had a change of target and now want the big prize.

Gunners continued with their fine run over the weekend by beating Chegutu Pirates 1-0 at Pfupajena and are now second on the log table.
Masaraure said their fine run had given them the belief that they can challenge for the league title.

“I think we are now playing to get promotion because we have seen that the opportunity is there but still there is no pressure because we agreed that it’s a building exercise.

“We have realised the opportunity is there and we can go for the title. Our team is a church team so God’s time is the best.
“We were looking at next season but maybe this is our time, God has permitted it,” said Masaraure.

All the Gunners players and their technical team staff are expected to be members of Prophet Walter Magaya’s Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministry.

The Gunners coach said the results between Mushowani and Bindura came as a blessing in disguise for them.
“The results for Mushowani and Bindura are working for our side. Bindura are now one point ahead of us. We just wanted to put pressure on them,” said Masaraure.

Gunners have so far won nine matches, drawn four and lost one.
With first half of the season almost done, they have everything to play for and they will be hoping to maintain their fine run in the second half of the season in which competition is likely to be tougher.
