Gringo and Enock Chihombori

Lazarus BOORA, popularly known as “Gringo”, has pleaded with show promoters to consider actors and actresses for performances during live shows. Gringo, who featured in Enock Chihombori’s drama series of the same name, said dramas could spice up shows. “Piracy has killed the entertainment industry and most musicians are relying on live performances to boost their income.

“Our new production ‘Gringo Troublemaker’ was hit by illegal recording reducing our revenue collection,” he said.
He said there were bogus promoters who purported to support artistes when, in fact, they were after enriching themselves and that there was little if any promotion for actors and actresses.

“So many festivals are being held and international artistes are being promoted yet local actors can bring the same product on stage or even better performances. For some of us acting is a natural thing.

“Acting is not only confined to DVDs. We can also do stage performances. Supporting acting can bring a huge difference to the entertainment industry and the arts could be developed if promoters stop being one-sided,” said Gringo.

He said actors depend on acting to take care of their families. He also said most of the actors and actresses had nothing to show for their fame.

Partson Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions called on actors and actresses to make themselves available during events.
He said it was possible to include talented actors as emcees at live shows.

Actors in the mould of the late Safirio Madzikatire and Freddy “Kapfupi” Manjalima also ventured into music where they excelled.
But for Gringo it was a case of fame without fortune. His latest film titled “Gringo the Troublemaker” was screened in cinemas and became a hit among movie lovers. Gringo is seen as one of the most talented comedians to emerge in Zimbabwe.
