A 68-year-old man allegedly raped his workmate’s six year-old sister in a toilet, the court heard yesterday. Christopher Bepe appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Milton Serima charged with rape.

He was remanded in custody to November 19 for trial and the magistrate advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.

Prosecutor Mr Sebastian Mutizirwa alleged that sometime between May and July this year, the minor was at her sister’s workplace waiting for her to finish work.

The court heard that the girl, who wanted to relieve herself asked Bepe for directions to the toilet.

It is alleged that Bepe followed the girl and budged into the toilet fully aware that the girl was inside. The court heard that Bepe went on to rape her once, telling her that he would buy her sweets afterwards.

It is the State’s case that Bepe threatened to rape the girl again if she told anyone about the incident.

However, the matter came to light when the girl confessed to her sister’s friend.

A report was made to the police leading to Bepe’s arrest.
