Government says it will soon open new and unfreeze existing pharmacy technician posts following revelations that only half the number of posts needed have been filled.

Speaking at the graduation of 26 pharmacy technicians at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare last Friday, Health and Child Care Minister Dr David Parirenyatwa said there were 375 pharmacy technician posts in Zimbabwe, a figure he described as too small.

“We need 800 more pharmacy technicians to be able to offer quality health care service to all Zimbabweans from their local clinics,” said Dr Parirenyatwa.

Government is implementing result-based management to improve the quality of services rendered by health practitioners.

“We have in place the Zim-Asset programme whose key trust is to improve service delivery and national development.

“The programme clearly spells out the urgency in filling all vacant posts and improving the conditions of service for all health care workers,” said Dr Parirenyatwa.
