Government has urged young women to work with community leaders and be part of development projects being rolled out in their communities.

Speaking at a recent meeting organised by the Women’s Coalition of Zimbabwe, acting deputy director in the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Arts and Recreation Mr Leonard Mukoko said there are many programmes offered by the Government which seek to empower the youth, but most recipients were not aware of their existence.

“We have a lot of programmes which cater for the youths, but most of them do not participate in these programmes because they do not know about them. I am urging all the youth to engage with their duty bearers so that they get to know about such programmes.

“We have the Junior Parliament and the Junior Council and these programmes challenge the youth to learn leadership roles and use these roles when they are grown up,” he said.

He said the Government is youth friendly and wants to nurture young people so that they can have a better future.

“We are encouraging youths to come up with business ideas and parastatals such as Zimbabwe Youth Council and Youth Association will help them.

“Government needs players to fill in the gaps so that we can achieve Vision 2030 together,” said Mr Mukoko.

He has also urged youths to attain skills at Vocational Training Centres.

“Youths must attain skills from Vocational Training Centres, if you are not academically gifted you can use vocational skills.

“Even if you are educated why not add to your abilities so that you can be marketable,” he said.

Mr Mukoko said Government has transformed a beer hall in Sakubva into a Vocational Training Centre to help youths who are interested in attaining vocational skills.
