Government has reiterated its commitment to working closely with civil society organisations to ensure children have access to quality education.
Primary and Secondary Education Minister Dr Lazarus Dokora yesterday told participants at the Education Coalition of Zimbabwe (ECOZI) 2nd annual meeting that Government was willing to partner with CSOs to improve the country’s education system.
“The Government of Zimbabwe and Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education envisage the civil society participation and co-operation in education as complementary to its efforts and very critical,” he said.

“The role played by CSOs to augment Government efforts in the provision of quality education cannot therefore be underestimated.”
Minister Dokora said the relationship between Government and CSOs should be closely guarded and nurtured for the common good of the children and the need for provision of quality education.

“They are looking at ways of helping us which is a very welcome development. There are areas such as infant school education module, formalisation of Early Childhood Development, and also matters to do with teacher improvement which are critical,” he said.

“They also stressed the centrality of Government and, of course, I agree that for all these to happen the leadership of Government is necessary in budgetary support and of course in policy formulation.”

ECOZI chairman Mr Charles Mubwandarikwa said the coalition will mobilise resources that would be extended to teachers and schools to improve the provision of quality education.

“We are going to work with our partners to seek resources and ensure that they reach their intended beneficiaries,” he said.
