Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Prisca Mupfumira, yesterday appointed a new board for the Zimbabwe Institute of Public Administration and Management (ZIPAM).

The term of office for the new ZIPAM board members is effective June 1, 2015 and would last for a period of four years.

The board would be chaired by Mr Noah Manomano Matimba who will be deputised by Commissioner Tendai Bare.

Other board members include Professor Charles Nherera, Mrs Fortunate Sekeso, Mr Fati Mpofu, Mrs Beatrice Chanetsa, Mrs Arina Manyanya and Mrs Grace Maramba.

Minister Mupfumira said ZIPAM had a huge crippling debt, but could not be drawn into divulging the extent of the debt but only said the debt could be overcome.

She said ZIPAM also faced challenges, which included infrastructure and facilities that needed sprucing up, the lack of state-of-the-art training equipment and under utilisation of the institution.

She expressed optimism that the new board would bring the much-desired change to the parastatal and restore it to its former glory.

“ZIPAM has developed its own turnaround strategy and as a board, you need to scrutinise this document and offer the necessary guidance,” said Minister Mupfumira.

Mr Matimba acknowledged the show of trust and confidence by Government in the new board members.

ZIPAM was established in 1984 and has the capacity to accommodate 165 participants.

Meanwhile, Minister Mupfumira also appointed a nine member board for the Social Security Building Society.

The building society would deal with the implementation of a housing policy.

The board is being chaired by Mr Gamaliel Mhofu Bwanya, deputy chair, Mrs Precious Sibiya, while other members are Mr David Mnangagwa, Ms Jean Maguranyanga, Mr Nimrod Chiminya, Mr Tinotenda Kambasha, Ms Sibusisiwe Bango, Mrs Josephine Ncube and non-executive board member, Mr James Mwauya Matiza.

Minister Mupfumira said she hoped that the board’s expertise, dedication and commitment would go a long way in stirring the ZimAsset programme.

Board member, Mr Tino Kambasha on behalf of Mr Bwanya, said the board would live to its expectations in its role of building the country under ZimAsset.

The announcing of board members would be followed by the setting up of an executive then registration for a license for the building society.
