Gospel hip-hop awards nominees list out
Tafadzwa Zimoyo Entertainment Reporter
The much-awaited nominees list for the inaugural Christian hip-hop awards which are scheduled to take place next month at Borrowdale Community Church is out.
The awards, which are meant to recognise the achievement of artistes in the genre, has 17 categories.
Big Brother Africa Hotshot housemate Butterphly real name Tariro Mharapara is vying for the Radio DJ of the Year, while Mudiwahood has been nominated three times for Most Influential Song of the Year, Most Influential Video of the Year and People’s Choice award.
The Best Live Performance will be voted on the night with the audience given a chance to vote for who they thought brought about their best performance at the event.
President of the Christian hip-hop Achievement Awards Noel Borerwe said preparations are at advanced stage and voting begins tomorrow up till December 10.
“The awards are scheduled to take place on December 19. With the nomination list now out, fans can start voting through the sms platform. The nominated artiste will have individual artwork created for them to inform artistes on how to vote and they can also check on the social media,” he said.
Borerwe said only five categories are to be voted for by the public such as Influential Album of the Year, Most Influential Mixtape of the Year, Radio DJ of the Year and Best Performance of the Night. The other 12 categories are left for the judges to decide.
He also announced the list of performers lined up for the night and said no international or regional acts are coming for the show.
“We have a list of performers who include Mudiwa, Ill Ceey, Nowizz, JBarz, House of Animates, Mau- Mau, Gjoza, Schingy, Brythreesixty and L4Him who are set to entertain the crowd. We were supposed to have South African Mano Juavane – the popular gospel act – but due to some logistics beyond our control the group is no longer coming,” he said.
The ceremony will be hosted by Tanaka Murindagomo, an Upper Sixth student at Prince Edward School.
