Ever since the likes of Tocky Vibes thought of revamping Zim dancehall music by throwing in some gospel lyrics inflections into it with tracks like “Mhai” among others, the bug has bitten a good number of artistes in the genre to the extent that it is has become the latest fad.

But few Zim dancehall artistes have gone to the extent of coming up with a wholly gospel dancehall album and it has been left to new kid on the block Dr Remmy, real name ,Remigio Chitunhu.

At the age of 22, Dr Remmy is already showing signs of a “music doctor” owing to to his ability to fuse gospel lyrics derived from the Bible coupled with with his observation of the day-to-day lives of people in the society that surrounds him.

Dr Remmy has released his debut offering titled “Mavambo” and in fashion typical of some of the big names that are products of his church, New Life Ministries who include Pastor G, Pardon Mutsago, Priestly and Pastor Richard Dube, Dr Remmy is using his music to preach the word of God.

But why the choice of dancehall to propagate the gospel?

“Zim dancehall is one genre that is regarded in bad light, but people don’t know is that reggae music has always been used to preach the gospel of peace, unity, liberation and love by its proponents and exponents like the late legendary Jamaican artiste, Bob Marley.

“It is my mission therefore as a gospel musician to change this perception and infuse some level of sanity into this type of music that appeals to many,” he said.

The 14-track album has tracks like “Mavambo”, “Mwari Huyai”, “Nyaya”, “Dzidzai Kuregerera”, “Miyedzo”, “Easter Tune”, “Siya Zemunyika” and “Kunamata” among others, which all exhort people to be righteous. It also has some bonus tracks.
