Two talented local dancehall artistes to emerge from the upcoming One Love “Ghetto Vs Ghetto” Clash will get a chance to travel to New York at the end of the year courtesy of the clash’s organisers, Baghdad Entertainment and renowned Jamaican artiste Gumbae Culture. The two outstanding artistes will participate in the Zimbabwe Jamaica International Africa Cultural Association Festival, together with other artistes from the region.

Speaking on the developments, Baghdad Entertainment’s Lawrence Karimazira said the Ghetto Clashes start this Saturday in Mufakose where Mufakose musicians will “battle” Budiriro artistes.

The finals, to be held in December, will be graced by Gumbae Culture who will help select the winners for the New York festival.
“The New York festival is a big deal and we want our artistes to be adequately prepared for it. The upcoming clashes are a preparatory measure that will not only give artistes an equal opportunity to be identified but also to perform with a live band,” he said,

He said their popular Hotta Fire that usually plays for international artistes who perform in Zimbabwe would be used for the clashes.
Hotta Fire has played for Sizzla Kalonji, Tony Rebel, Red Rat, and Mic Inity among others.

Asked whether the “clashing” concept won’t create or further rifts between artistes, he said they had put in measures to ensure the clashes remain professional.

“We have rules governing the ghetto clash and a panel of judges will immediately disqualify anyone who breaks them. There is no vulgar language allowed, no singing about any other artistes or doing anything to incite violence. This is clearly stated in the forms they get upon registration. We want their talents to do the fighting,” he said.

Mic Inity and Nadine Brown are the special judges that will shortlist the artistes that will proceed to the guests’’s ghetto as the build-up to the finals intensify.

The shortlisted artistes will also be tasked with recording (for free) at Baghdad Entertainment Studio songs from the new instrumental by Gumbae Culture.

Meanwhile, 50 artistes from both Mufakose and Budiriro are gearing up for the first gig to be held this Saturday.
“Gumbae Culture has so far sent us his instrumental that we will record with the shortlisted artistes. The recorded songs will then be performed in December both in Zimbabwe and New York,” he said.

“We are pleased with the support we are getting from people who believe in building our artistes. Among these are Harare youth chairma Cde Gomwe. At the end of the day, it is all about giving our artistes exposure to different audiences,” said another Baghdad Entertainment representative Alton Hove.
Other organisers include Kevin Ngosvi and Farai Musarurwa.
