Budding writers have been invited to submit their works for consideration in the Flash Fiction Category of the 2015 Etisalat Prize for Literature. In a statement released yesterday, the organisers said the award was meant to celebrate unpublished writers across the African continent. “The Flash Fiction Category of the annual Etisalat Prize for Literature is designed to celebrate unpublished writers across the African continent and challenge budding writers to create compelling stories,” the organisers noted.

They said the prize is open to all writers of unpublished short stories of African citizenship but can be resident anywhere in the world. The entries open on September 21 and close on October 19. “All entries will be submitted online via the website and should not exceed 300 words. The Herald Review editor, Monica Cheru-Mpambawashe has been selected as one of the judges together with other African literature personalities Toni Kan, Hawa Jande Golakai and Abubakar Adam Ibrahim. “The judging panel consists of personalities who have established relationship with the African writing space: on ground and online, spanning book clubs, poets, writers and critics.”

The winning author will be rewarded with a cash prize of £1 000 a high-end device and the promotion of their published e-books, while two runners up will each receive £500 cash prize and a high-end device. Tanzanian writer and poet Neema Komba, won the 2014 edition of the Etisalat Prize for Literature Flash Fiction Category.
