A 28-year-old Gokwe man got a wholly suspended two year sentence for killing his brother while trying to stop him from beating up their mother. Arnold Njanji (28) of Majerimani Village, Gokwe accidentally killed his brother Tafadzwa during a fight. The court heard that Tafadzwa wanted to beat up his mother but was prevented from doing so by Arnold. He then turned on Arnold who picked up a wooden stool and struck him on the head once and killed him.

Bulawayo High Court Judge Justice Francis Bere sitting on Circuit Court in Gweru, found mitigatory factors in favour of Arnold who was represented by his lawyer Mr Arnold Sakwinji. Arnold had pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of culpable homicide. In mitigation, Arnold said he regretted killing his brother Tafadzwa, whom he said was the aggressor. Mr Mirirai Shumba appeared for the State.
